Inter-continental Playoffs: Teranga Lionesses Flattened By Haiti

Haiti stormed to a 4-0 win over Senegal at North Harbour Stadium in Auckland as the final qualifying playoffs for the Women’s World Cup kicked off.

A few months after a historic Women’s AFCON marked by a journey to the quarter-finals, the Lionesses played in the semi-finals of the play-offs of the 2023 Women’s World Cup in the early hours of Saturday at North Harbor Stadium in Auckland, New -Zealand.

The girls of Mame Moussa Cissé unfortunately sank 4-0 against Haiti. The Senegalese cracked at the cusp of halftime, through a header from Kethna Louis from a corner (44).

Nerilia Mondesir then doubled Haiti’s lead at the break after returning from the locker room (54th), before the game was wrapped off courtesy a double from Roselord Borgella (64th, 65th) against a poor Senegalese defense.

It is therefore the Haitians who will challenge Chile on February 22 in the final of group B of the play-offs.

There are 28 places separating the two nations in the FIFA Women’s ranking and Senegal’s defeat was damaging.

Cameroon, the other African representatives in the play-offs, won 2-0 against Thailand in the early hours of the morning.

As a reminder, South Africa, Morocco, Nigeria and Zambia are already certain to participate in the 2023 Women’s World Cup scheduled from July 20 to August 20, 2023 in Australia and New Zealand.
