Intercontinental play-offs: Onguene’s Double Help Lionesses Through In Chaotic Game Against Thailand

Two late goals from CSKA Moscow forward Aboudi Onguene sent the Indomitable Lionesses a step closer to the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

It was nerve-wracking but Cameroon earned a hard-fought 2-0 victory against Thailand and they will face Portugal in Hamilton on Wednesday.

Onguene opened the scoring in the 79th minute by connecting with a squared pass from Ajara Nchout before wrapping up the victory with another sublime strike three minutes later.

The game was however not so straight forward as Thailand had few good moments of their own.

Nipawan Panyosuk sent a free kick on the edge of the box just wide to the left on the hour mark.

The video assistant referee was called upon before Bawou was sent off for colliding with an opponent as she came out of her area to claim the ball and a total of 24 minutes of stoppage time ended up being played as a result.

Cameroon, who reached the last 16 at the 2015 and 2019 World Cups, finally triumphed at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton following Aboudi’s two late goals, despite the chaotic match that featured 24 minutes of added time.
