It is over between indomitable Lions and Rigobert Song

Rigobert Song has broken up with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, a statement from the sports ministry has confirmed.

The Cameroonian technician did not have his contract extended at the helm of the Indomitable Lions.

After two years at the head of the Cameroon national football team, Rigobert Song is leaving his position as coach of the Indomitable Lions per the hearing yesterday (Tuesday February 27, Editor’s note) in the Prime Minister’s office alongside Samuel Eto’o, Rigobert Song learned that his services will no longer be needed.

“I have the honor to notify you of your contract expiration…..”

“Also, it is not possible for the government to extend your contract as the selectioneur manageur of the Cameroon senior men’s national team,” Minister Moulle Kombi’s statement reads.

Rigobert Song’s contract with the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) came to an end on Tuesday February 27 after an adventure which lasted only 2 years.

Criticized for his average statistics with the Indomitable Lions, the former Liverpool player did not impress in the dugout as he did on the playing surface.

With a poor record of 8 wins, 9 defeats and 6 draws in 23 matches, Rigobert Song’s mandate did not make the Cameroonians optimistic.

In the following days, a shortlist of coaches will be sent by the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) to the ministry, as the search for a new gaffer begins.

Some names had earlier been raised; one of them being former Gambia coach Tom Saintfliet, but he has taken over the Philippines job.
