“It Isn’t How I left It,” Zungu Plaudits Rapid Football Growth In Africa

Mamelodi Sundowns midfeild anchorman Bongani Zungu has commended the rapid football growth at Mamelodi Sundowns and on the African continent, after his return from Europe.

Aged 30, Zungu has been relegated to the substitute’s bench for failing to match his standards upon his return to Downs, where a position in the starting 11 is a real scruffle.

For a man who once received compliments from Steven Gerrard as: ‘A dominant midfielder with the right profile who can enhance the team and compliment other players,’ experts tipped Zungu to be thrown into the fray in every other game. That however, has not been the case.

‘I made a decision to play for one of the best teams. Since I left Mamelodi Sundowns and came back, there has been improvements not just in the club, but in Africa. It is however not up to me to determine who starts but the coach,’ the former Amiens midfeilder stated regarding his limited game time.

The Duduza native has played 8 games for Sundowns in all competitions since he rejoined the club in August last year. Zungu has not displayed his best performance which has raised concerns about his inclusion in the team. Sundowns have many quality players occupying the midfield positions that are preventing Zungu from finding a starting birth.

It is left to see if the one time stardust at Downs can start putting up a queue of fine performances, beginning against Cotonsport on Friday
