J – League: Uruwa Reds Defeat John Mary’s Avispa Fukuoka 2-0

It wasn’t a happy return from injury for former USD and AS Fortuna forward, John Mary Uzueghunam on match day 20 of the J – league.

Cameroon international forward John Mary Uzueghunam made his return from injury on June 27, but his presence on the pitch was not enough for Avispa Fukuoka to avoid a two – nil defeat in the hands of Uruwa Reds.

Hosts Uruwa Reds dominated proceedings earlier on in the first half and made he breakthrough courtesy an 11 minute strike from attacking midfeilder Yoshio Koizumi.

Uruwa then continued with their dominance all round and capitalized late in the second half when Avispa tried venturing forward as a unit, for an illusive equaliser. It was Uruwa’s left back Takahiro Akimoto, of all people, who sealed the deal at the 76 minute.

Avispa Fukuoka are 10th placed with 29 points with 18 more games to play.

This was the first time in 35 days the firebrand forward was playing, after he sustained a Meniscus damage that kept him out for 6 games.

Avispa takes the road next to face sixth placed Sagan Tosu who are on 33 points and have a game at hand.

John Mary has scored three goals in six games for Avispa so far.
