José Peseiro with limited Forward options as Umar Bows To Injury

By Ngome Michael

Victoria Osimhen is Nigeria’s lone available striker for AFCON opener against Equatorial Guinea after Real Sociedad’s Umar Sadiq has been confirmed out due to a knee injury.

The 26-year-old sustained an injury which sees him out for an extended period of three weeks in the Super Eagles warm-up game against Guinea in Abu Dhabi.

Compounding the situation for José Peseiro, Kelechi Iheanacho and Terem Moffi are unlikely to be available for the game, as they are set to join the team in Abidjan later in the week.

Nigeria’s team is being heavy hit by injuries amidst growing unpopularity around the Portuguese at the helm of the Super Eagles team

Umar joins Wilfred Ndidi and Victor Boniface, who were part of Nigeria’s final squad list for the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire, but respective injuries ruled them out of the tournament.
