Jules Armand Kooh Haunt Former Coach, Reclaims Top Scorership
By Ngome Michael
Astre Football Club of Douala has finished the regular (group phase) of 2024 Elite One Championship with a 2-0 win over Bamboutos of Mbouda in Douala.
The win which serves as mere consolation after a series of poor results (6 successive defeats) was realized by hitman, Armand Kooh who condemned his former coach, Enerst Agbor to a losing start with the Mangwa.
His second half brace also set the striker apart as the season’s top scorer with 14goals. He accounts for over half the total number of goals scored by Astre despite the club finding itself at the bottom end in Group A.
Winless in their last four matches, Bamboutos saw playoffs hopes ditched in a 2-1 defeat to Colombe the previous matchday and even a positive result in Douala would have made them wait for results from elsewhere to confirm their final league standing.
All these didn’t play-out as thought with the Mangwa Boys extending their losing streak to four matches. As a matter of fact, Bamboutos go into the relegation playoffs without win since resuming from the AFCON break.
Kooh sprung quickest to a dangerous cross breaking the deadlock within three minutes after the pose. The ball came in from the left-wing, meandering through the legs of Bamboutos defenders before meeting the goal poacher who placed Astre infront with ease after a feisty opening half.
Astre were better shaped than in previous two outings at home to Union and PWD but this didn’t stop the Mangwa Boys from creating chances, coming close drawing level only the for the man left with the job to lose his footing and step over the ball.
This mistake was paid almost on the spot the with the host regaining possession in a sharp counter attack which had Bakanja set up Kooh who beat Ekoi Manfred for the second time.
Koupit Mani was blessed with another goal scoring opportunity from range to nick-in atleast a consolation but his effort on goal was handled with simplicity by the Astre goalkeeper.
First win for Gabriel Zabo Toze since taking charge some two weeks back while Agbor Enerst must now figure out how to maintain Bamboutos in Elite one. For Armand Kooh, the playoffs is another avenue for him to add to his goalscoring tally.
