Just in: Stadium Ban At Olembe Uplifted For AFCON Semis And Final
Temporarily suspended from hosting quarter final games, sportsglitz.net can confirm that the Olembe stadium, will reopen its doors for the semis and AFCON final, after the January 24 stampede that claimed the lives of at least 8 people.
This comes in after the game that was scheduled for the Olembe Stadium on Sunday, pitting Senegal against Equatorial Guinea was pushed to the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium.
A committee was set up to immediately investigate what happened and find out who did not perform their responsibilities, after the Olembe Stampede; and from sportsglitz.net sources, a report has been handed by the Local organizing committee – to CAF, about the dreadful incident.
The news is received with mixed feelings as some African football
experts believe that, the best thing to have done, was close the Olembe Stadium – at least for the moment.
Due to this latest development, the the Olembe Stadium will stage the semi final game as initially scheduled, on Thursday February 3, and then the final, on February 6.
