By Ngome Michael
Astre of Douala’s worrisome run in the league isn’t getting any better as the Brazilians have been toppled by Gazelle FA in a 3-1 defeat on Matchday-15.
Despite changing coaches, the economic capital outfit headed up north for change of story having suffered four straight defeats. This however never came as Gabriel Zabo made a losing start.
The former Stade Renard gaffer’s tactics did not take effect from the onset when the host pushed forward from a series corner kicks won a penalty within just four minutes of kickoff converted by Kalgon Kada who will proceed have a bright day.
It was time to react for the visitors who staged a high-line hoping to ask questions of goalkeeper Housseini Ousmanou preferred by Alioum Kada over Marcelin Mbahbi in rare absence.
The Brazilians had quite a chunk of possession since falling behind effecting multiple passes but failed to breakdown the Gazelle defence that transformed a key first half moment at the back into attack which almost had Astre going behind again but for Binni Colbert who didn’t connect with a pass from Kada. The scoreline stayed 1-0 at the pose.
Gazelle FA remained steady at the back successfully stalling Armand Kooh in several of his pernetrating run into defenders and even when the green/yellow dropped balls into the 18yard area, Housseini quickly neutralized them.
Toze brought in Ekoi Jonas and Che Corriness as attacking aids to Kooh who on multiple occasions got outwitted by Gazelle defence line resulting to him being flagged offside.
Kada on one of his team’s surge forward met with a lose ball driven from the right flank, wasted no time shoot, burying it down into the bottom corner.
Astre thought they were on for a comeback after a long ball from behind juggled on heads in the opponent’s box was quickly volleyed in for 2-1 but, Moussa Lamine killed it with Gazelle’s with four minutes left.
Astre is now on a run of four consecutive defeats haven won their last game against Dynamo in December 2023. They return home to a derby with Union while Gazelle travels to AS Fortuna.
