Koupit, Kaimba score to make Bodne’s second league goal only a consolation, as Bamboutos leapfrog Astres
The Mangwa Boys have kept tabs of Dynamo as group A has seemingly switched to a two horse race.
Bamboutos Football Club of Mbouda edged Les Astres Football Club of Douala at the Mbouda Municipal stadium, hours after the news of Eugene Edjanguele’s passing was confirmed.
Led by its skipper Koupit Mani, the lads knew they had to win for Edjanguele – who scored Bamboutos’ lone goal in the 2021 cup winners cup against Cotonsport, which handed the team its first title in over 6 decades.
Les Astres was coming off the back of a stellar 3-1 win over PWD of Bamenda, but looked rather rusty off the tracks.
Bamboutos formerly scored three goals each in their last two games against Canon and Colombe, despite being unable to pick out maximum points.
So, it was no surprise when Koupit Mani opened scoring at the 5th minute of play.
However, coach Agbor Ernest and his charges rallied and leveled through Corines Bodne, who scored for his second successive game for the club at the 24th minute.
Experience won the day. Bamboutos kept looking for an in-road and got one at the 43rd minute, and that was pretty much that.
The Mangwa Boys rank second in group A with 16 points, two behind group leaders Dynamo.
Les Astres are placed 5th after after an important point gained by Union against Dynamo in Douala.
