Kunde Malong’s Season Going According To Script
Leaving Mainz for Olympiakos last summer for Cameroon International, Pierre Kunde Malong, was a tough call but closing in on a year after, the midfeilder is moving on still waters. It is Kundes’s best season per accolades!
First up, Kunde was involved in the Champions League for the very first time in his career, playing four games in the playoffs, before his side exited in the last round of the playoffs.
The EX Atleti B midfeild interstellar went on to play four games further in the Euroupa league, before the Greek juggernauts lost in the intermediate stage to Atalanta.
Due to his exploits, Kunde was Included in Cameroon’s final 28-man list of the TotalEnergies AFCON which took place in Cameroon.
Cameroon made a spectacular comeback at the AFCON third place game against Burkina Faso to win bronze.
Skipper Vincent Aboubakar scored two late goals as Cameroon staged an extraordinary comeback from three goals down against Burkina Faso to level the match at 3-3 and win third place on penalties at the Africa Cup of Nations, with Kunde playing 90 minutes on the night, culminating his minutes in that competition to 229 minutes in four games played. He took and converted one of the penalties himself.
After a descent AFCON campaign on home soil, Kunde was maintained in the Lions’ squad in the WC play-offs despite a change of coaching personnel, as the Lions were set to pit a wounded Algerian squad, desperate to cover AFCON scars.
Cameroon went through to the World Cup via a 2-2 aggregate score, with Kunde playing a role.
The 26-year-old made his way into the game at the 87th minute, replacing Oyongo Bitolo.
It was his wonderful piece of quick thinking; to go short with his throw – in to Fai Collins, whose delicious cross led to a late winner from Ekambi, led in by Ngadeu’s initial flick.
Returning to his club, Kunde aided Olympiakos – secure the Super League title in Greece, against rivals PAOK at the Thessaloniki Toumba Stadium.
The team from Piraeus came back from a 1-0 deficit to score twice in the second half and celebrated its 47th League title.
PAOK led early on through a Thomas Murg goal from close range, but two beautiful goals in the second half by Rony Lopes and Oleg Reabciuk gave Olympiacos all three points and an unassailable lead with a handful of games left.
After a near-perfect season with accolades intertwined between, Kunde is almost certain of a spot when the Indomitable Lions head to Qatar in November.
