Mahachi, Petros And Benyu Walk – Off Injured In Zimbabwe’s Friendly Against Sudan

Kudakwashe Mahachi, 28, walked – off Injured after a slight touch on his right leg in Zimbabwe’s zero – all tie against Sudan, this Sunday.

The Super Sport United winger played 9 minutes of the ball game before the medical team indicated to Norman Mapeza, for a substitution to be made. He was then replaced by 35-year-old Onismor Bhasera.

Same fate befell goalkeeper Petros Mhari who was caught mid-air, in an attempt to clutch on a ball in his area, from a Sudanese free – kick. It came at the cusp of halftime, and Denis Onyango’s supposed successor was taken off – to avoid further damage.

Just like Mahachi in the first, Kundai Benyu was stretched out in the first quarter of the second half.

The central midfeilder went down unimpeded and was equally substituted on via Doctor’s advise.

In the game proper, Sudan showed a different face from that which lost (3-2) against Ethiopia on December 30.

The men of Burham Tia scored a goal adjudged offside by the referee and equally hit the woodwork through striker, Mohamed Yousif.

Zimbabwe themselves were enterprising and came out of their shell in the second half. The warriors created some half chances, but Azam’s free – scoring ‘star boy’, Prince Dube, didn’t have his scoring cleats on.

Talking after the game, coach Norman Mapeza was satisfied with how the lads showed up.

‘We had some chances especially in the first half. There was equally some creativity. I am impressed with our organization at the back,’ the gaffer said.

‘For Petros, it is just a dead leg. For Kundai it didn’t look all that bad. It is the nature of such matches, and in the tournament proper, we would have such.’
