Mbella Etouga voted Man of the match after late winner against Zamalek
Frank Mbella Etouga was voted man of the match after netting a late winner for Gouna against Zamalek on Tuesday, March 13.
The 22-year-old who is currently on loan from Al Masry was a menace to the opposition’s defense, and, eventually ended the game with a world class finish, worthy of all three points.
Zamalek’s season of misery continued after the 3-2 defeat.
This defeat marked Zamalek’s fourth loss in the league this season and the first under the leadership of newly appointed coach Jose Gomes, just four days after their 2-0 loss to Ahly in the Egypt Cup final.
Gomes made several changes to the squad, giving rare starts to players such as Ahmed Hamdi, Mahmoud Alaa, Mohamed Ashraf, and Samson Akynoola.
Despite a promising start with Hamdi and Alaa missing two clear chances within the first five minutes, Zamalek went into halftime trailing 1-0 due to a goal from Reda Salah in the 30th minute.
However, they managed to equalize seven minutes into the second half with a goal from fullback Ahmed Fatouh.
Five minutes later, Benin’s striker Samson Akynoola added a second goal for Zamalek.
Emmanuel Lucky then leveled the score for Gouna in the 74th minute.
As Zamalek pushed forward in search of a winning goal, Gouna striker Franck Etouga scored the decisive third goal in the 82nd minute.
With this loss, Zamalek currently sit in 13th place in the league table with 15 points from 11 games, trailing leaders Masry by 12 points, although Masry has played three more matches.
