Morocco Gears Up for AFCON 2025 with World-Class Stadiums, Transportation, and Flight Services
Morocco’s preparations for AFCON 2025 are in full swing, with significant investments in infrastructure, transportation, and flight services, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for fans and teams alike.

The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is one of the most prestigious football tournaments in Africa, showcasing the continent’s rich talent and passion for the sport. Morocco is gearing up to host the 2025 AFCON with impressive preparations, demonstrating its capability to organize major international events.
Key Developments
Morocco has made significant strides in infrastructure development, transportation, and logistics. A notable development is the introduction of 723 newly delivered Yutong buses from China, the largest single order of its kind on the continent. These buses will serve as a backbone for transportation during the tournament, ensuring smooth movement for players, officials, and fans across host cities.

The buses are equipped with advanced technology, including fuel-saving and smart programs that improve efficiency and reduce energy consumption. Morocco plans to purchase around 7,000 new buses by 2030, half of which will be electric, aligning with its commitments to energy transition and environmental protection. This initiative is part of Morocco’s broader strategy to promote sustainable transportation and reduce its carbon footprint.
Stadium Renovations

Morocco has invested heavily in renovating and expanding its iconic stadiums. Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca is a historic venue that hosted the 1988 AFCON final and is expected to be a major venue once again. With a capacity of over 67,000 seats, the stadium has undergone significant renovations, including new seating, improved lighting, upgraded hospitality, and enhanced accessibility. Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat is another key venue that will host significant matches and has been recently rebuilt with modern facilities, boasting a capacity of over 53,000 seats. Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier has been upgraded and will provide fans with a top-tier viewing experience during the tournament, with a seating capacity of over 65,000. Adrar Stadium in Agadir is known for its stunning location and modern facilities, and is being expanded ahead of the tournament to accommodate more fans. Marrakesh Stadium is a popular venue with fans and is expected to host significant action during the tournament.
Morocco’s AFCON Hosting History
Morocco has a rich history of hosting AFCON tournaments. The country last hosted the Africa Cup of Nations in 1988, when just eight teams competed, and Cameroon emerged victorious. In 2019, Morocco declined to host the AFCON despite being tipped to stage the event after Cameroon was stripped of the hosting rights.
Royal Air Maroc’s Enhanced Flight Services
Royal Air Maroc is increasing the number of flights to support the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. As the official global partner and airline for the tournament, Royal Air Maroc will add over 660 additional flights, increasing capacity by more than 50%.
This enhancement aims to accommodate the expected surge in fans and teams attending the tournament. The airline will significantly strengthen its flight schedule to meet the increased demand during the tournament. Royal Air Maroc has already introduced direct flights from cities like Douala, Cameroon, to Casablanca, operating three times a week.

Royal Air Maroc plans to double seat capacity from qualified countries already served by the airline and will increase flight frequencies from European cities with large African communities. Royal Air Maroc will offer special packages for the African diaspora traveling through Casablanca, allowing them to attend AFCON matches.
The airline will also implement an exceptional operational system to meet increased demand during CAF competitions, welcoming over 500,000 supporters for AFCON 2025. To ensure a seamless experience for fans, Royal Air Maroc has been working closely with tournament organizers to tailor its services to meet the specific needs of football supporters.
