Morocco mauls Angola to clinch 2024 Futsal AFCON trophy
Morocco thumped Angola 5-1 to ensure they will head to the FIFA Futsal World Cup in September as continental kings.
Hicham Dguig’s side thrilled and thrashed Angola in Rabat to conquer a third straight CAF Futsal AFCON.
Goals from Soufiane Borite, Idriss Raiss El Fenni, Soufiane El Mesrar, Anas El Ayyane and Bilal Bakkali secured a 5-1 victory, which saw the Atlas Lions finish the tournament having registered 36 goals and conceded just six.
Morocco also enjoyed a clean sweep of the competition’s individual awards. Bakkali, Soufian Charraoui and Abdelkrim Anbia, indeed, won the Best Player, Top Goalscorer and Best Goalkeeper prizes.
Morocco reached the knockout phase at the FIFA Futsal World Cup for the first time in 2021, then beat Venezuela to set up a quarter-final against Brazil.
The North Africans gave the record five-time global champions a strict examination in a 1-0 defeat. They will now attempt to go all the way at Uzbekistan 2024.
