Moumbagna and Marseille limp to Europa league quarter-final under duress
Despite the defeat on Thursday against Villarreal, Faris Moumbagna and Marseille qualified for the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
Despite a great game from Villarreal, Marseille qualified thanks to their big victory (4-0) at the Vélodrome last week.
With a deficit of 4 goals to make up for, the yellow submarines started the match strongly. Étienne Capoue put his team on the right track in the 32nd minute. Sorloth scored the second goal for Villarreal in the 54th minute. Mosquera gave a bit of hope to the Spaniards by scoring his team’s 3rd goal in the 85th minute.
With only one goal behind to snatch extra time, Villarreal pushed but it was Jonathan Clauss who took the game beyond Villarreal’s reach (90+4′, 3-1). Marseille won on aggregate with a score of 5 goals to 3.
On the sidelines throughout the match, Faris Moumbagna for his first season with Marseille will play the quarter-finals of the Europa League. Marseille’s opponents will be known this Friday.
