Ngadeu Joins Chinese Side Beijing Guoan

Gent have confirmed that former Cameroon captain Michael Ngadeu has left the club for China. As reported a number of weeks ago, the 32-year-old had been weighing up a substantial offer from an then unnamed Chinese side. Gent have now revealed that it was Beijing Guoan who made an offer for the central defender that he couldn’t refuse. His contract was due to end in the summer, but the club have negotiated a fee with Beijing Guoan to release Ngadeu from his contract early.

After four years with the Buffaloes, Ngadeu announced he was sad to be leaving. ‘I had fantastic years here, it was a very nice adventure. The club has become family and I want to thank everyone, especially the supporters. So it is with some regret that I leave, but that is life. I hope the team finishes in the top-4 and gets as far as possible in Europe’ the experienced defender said via the clubs website.

32-year-old Ngadeu has been with the Buffaloes since 2019, having joined from Czech side Slavia Prague. He has made 170 appearances in all competitions for Gent, scoring 10 goals in the process and winning the Croky Cup last season. The defender had also been a regular with the Cameroonian national team, winning the AFCON in 2017. However, he was unceremoniously dropped for the recent World Cup in Qatar, a surprise given he had captained the team during the most recent AFCON in Cameroon
