Odemba targets double as kenya’s U20 prep to battle Cameroon

Kenya’s national women’s Under 20 team, the Rising Starlets, are prepping to go heads on against Cameroon in their World Cup, third round, first leg qualifier against Cameroon on Saturday.

Starlets coach Beldine Odemba travelled with a total of 19 players who will do duty in the first leg game which will be played away at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium,Yaoundé .

The return leg is scheduled 6 days later in Nairobi.

Kenya advanced after defeating Angola 10-1 on aggregate in the two legged qualifier.

Head Coach Odemba expressed confidence of the team registering good result.

She revealed that there are no injury concerns adding that the absence of eight players currently sitting for their KCSE exams is not a major concern since those called up to replace them are ready to step up.

With an eye on the fourth round, the Rising Starlets are determined to overcome their Cameroonian counterparts.

Victory in the third round would propel them into a clash with the winner of the Congo-Egypt match. Should the Rising Starlets emerge victorious in the fourth round, they will secure a coveted spot in the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, scheduled to be hosted in Colombia.

Coach Odemba is a well known craftswoman in Cameroon. She denied Cameroon from participating at the WAFCON for the first time on penalties, after a one-all aggregate scoreline.

Meanwhile, Hassan Mballa and his ladies have been fine-tuning tactics for over a week now in the nation’s political capital of Yaounde.

The Junior Lionesses will look to tick the box in the first leg en route to Colombia 2024, given that the team has never participated in this competition.
