Official: Jerome Onguene Joins Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt has completed the transfer of highly rated cameroon defender, Jerome Onguene. Accordingly, the 24-year-old central defender will go from RB Salzburg on a free transfer in the summer and will sign with SGE for five years, Salzburg has officially confirmed.

Onguene has long appeared on Eintracht’s list of candidates. The contract of the ten-time national team player for Cameroon in Salzburg expires in the summer. As the French journalist Fabrice Hawkins reports, the transfer is already done. Onguene has already signed in Frankfurt until 2027.

The central defender is no stranger to Germany. At the end of January 2017 he moved from youth club FC Sochaux to VfB Stuttgart for 2.5 million euros. Only six months later we went to Salzburg, first on loan, a year later on (two million euros). The 24-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at CFC Genoa before returning to Salzburg last summer.

There Onguene was part of the starting eleven for much of the season. In the Champions League he started five out of six group games. However, he is currently disabled by malaria, which he suffered after the Africa Cup of Nations.

The defender’s market value is currently estimated at 3.5 million euros. The free transfer is therefore a good deal for Eintracht. Especially with regard to potential departures on the defensive. Evan N’Dicka in particular is repeatedly associated with a change.
