Omossola Sends Vita To CAF CL Group Stage

Simon Omossola saved a penalty for his club – side AS Vita club, as they defeated RC Kadiogo 4-3 on penalties to book a place amongst Africafa’s elite clubs in the CAF champions league.

The cameroonian international played across both legs and was pivotal for the Congolese giants as they leapfrogged Kadiogo on penalties.

From when the match up was made, it was clear that Vita was in for a tough one, as Kadiogo eliminated Ghana premier league holders, Asante Kotoko to book a spot in the second round of the preliminaries.

Simon Omossola, who was made to be a reserve and found game time few and far between towards the end of last season, turned to be the hero for his team, keeping a clean sheet in the two games, and parrying a penalty away. Mbarga Abega was another Cameroonian used by coach coach Raoul Shungu across both legs, as the club completed the historic feat. Dande Junior and Ndongo Foe were both unused substitutes.

Qualification to the CAF interclub competition will boost the confidence of Omossola, especially as the 24 year old is eyeing a spot in Rigobert Song’s world cup team. The last time AS Vita played the group stage of the competition was back on 2014 when they emerged runners-up.
