Onana puts in fine display in Inter’s UCL loss against City
André Onana’s Inter put in a valiant performance in Istanbul today but they lost 1-0 to Manchester City, thanks to a second-half goal by Rodri. But the Cameroon international proved his worth in the game, despite having lost.
Before the game, Onana gave an interview which says a lot about his determined personality. He stated that the final was about Inter and being Inter, they had no choice but to win the game. The game ended with the Cameroon international lifting his emotional teammates and asking them to keep their chins up after a great performance.
Throughout the game, Onana stepped up and helped Inter build with a back four – him and the back three. He was constantly linking up with them and there were times when he was further forward than the back three, breaking City’s midfield and forward lines with his passing and often playing it long to Edin Dzeko.
He was constantly vocal in communicating with his teammates, showcasing what a leader he is. A brilliant moment came towards the very end of the game when Inter were hunting for a goal and Onana took on the initiative, carried the ball forward, broke the City’s front line with the progression and played a terrific line-breaking pass to Romelu Lukaku. That defines him as a player and despite the loss, he should keep his head held high.
