Onana Starts for Ajax For First Time In Close To A Year

Cameroon shot – stopper Andre Onana has been listed as first choice goalkeeper in their Champions league game away to Besiktas this evening.

This is turning out to be a month and some for the cage guard, who equally started two games for his native Cameroon on November 13 and 16.

The 25-year-old’s initial 12-month ban, imposed in February of this year, was reduced to nine upon appeal, and he returned to Ajax first-team training at the end of last month.

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag has now restored Onana to the starting line-up, with the Cameroon international selected to start in goal in the club’s Champions League match on Wednesday evening.

Onana was named on the bench for the club’s last two Eredivisie fixtures, with Remko Pasveer maintaining his place in goal.

Onana, whose ban from training expired on September 4, initially started training with the club’s youth side as his contract impasse bore on.

Andre Onana is currently solicited by some big name clubs in the old continent of Europe, with Inter taking center stage. Ajax are mathematically through to the knockout stages in group C of the UCL with 12 points, and 2 games to spare.
