PSL: Richard Bay’s Siphamandla Dies On Duty

The South African football fraternity is mourning after the tragic loss of Richards Bay captain Siphamandla Mtolo.

Aged 29, the latter collapsed in training on Tuesday March 7, 2023. Despite the efforts of medical teams to resuscitate him, he unfortunately did not survive.

The club confirmed the sad news in a statement posted on social media.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce that Richards Bay Football Club have prematurely lost one of their midfielders, Siphamandla ‘Spepe’ Mtolo, [who] collapsed in training this morning,” aired Richards Bay FC.

Mtolo was part of the squad that played against Kaizer Chiefs last Saturday, playing the entire duration.

The player’s passing shocked the football community, and tributes poured in on social media. “His presence on and off the pitch will be greatly missed. The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Richards Bay Football Club are with his family, friends and loved ones,” the statement added.

The club have also asked that the privacy of Mtolo’s family be respected during this difficult time of mourning.
