Qatar 2022: Augustine Simo Drops Hint Of Local Players’ Inclusion

Augustine Simo, second assistant to coach Rigobert Song has reveled that they’re still some places up for grabs in the den, reason why Cameroon will opt for local players against Jamaica, despite the presence of four foreign based players.

“We are going to use local players because every spot in the team is open to any player, tomorrow will be an opportunity for the players to sell their talent in front of the Cameroonian crowd and the international scene.

“Having said that, we need a result as it will boost our morale for the World Cup.” Simo ended.

26 players were selected from the local scene to participate in this camp from November 3rd, as the friendly against Jamaica doesn’t fall in a FIFA window, thus foreign based players couldn’t honor the invitation.

Cameroon aims at replicating the 1990 event or going a step or two further in Qatar, but the 4-time African champions must start by qualifying in group G, where they’re up against Switzerland, Brazil and Serbia.
