Qatar 2022: Brazilian Legend Cafu, Tips Cameroon To Get Passed Group Stage

On November 24, Cameroon will start it’s 2022 World Cup journey. Rigobert Song’s men will open their campaign against Switzerland, one of the favorites to make it out of group G alongside Brazil.

Brazilian legend Cafu however thinks the Indomitable Lions will end runners-up and sail through to the round of 16 with his native Brazil.

As per the former Selecao right-back who captained Brazil to victory in the 2002 edition of the World Cup, the only African country that will make it passed the group phase is Cameroon.

According to AC Milan’s record man, Senegal, placed 18th in the world ranking will finish bottom of group A, while Morocco (group F) and Ghana (group H) will finish third runners-up.

Selected 142 times for the national team between 1990 and 2006 (a record for Brazil), Cafu won the World Cup in 1994, then in 2002, as captain. His exceptional record makes him one of the best right-backs in the history of the sport. Cafu watched Brazil lose to Cameroon (2-1) en route to cameroon’s gold medal at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, and then, a 1-0 defeat 2 years after, in the FIFA Confederations Cup. Cafu however, wasn’t part of the team that twice lost against Cameroon, but believes in the team’s resilience.

Meanwhile, Cameroon taking part in it’s 8th participation are yet to win a world cup game since 2002. The 5-time African champions will look to beat its personal and continental record of the quarter-finals they lastly attained in 1990.
