Qatar 2022: Choupo Moting Breaks Duck Against Serbia

Choupo continued where he started as he scored again against Serbia, 12 years after his debut goal for Cameroon against the same opposition.

Flash back to 2010, Choupo Moting was 21 and he was playing only his second game for team Cameroon when he scored in his side’s 4-3 defeat in a friendly against Serbia.

Fast forward years later, the skipper has now scored his first goal for the indomitable Lions in a competition finals against Serbia.

Despite having bagged 20 goals already for Cameroon, Bayern Munich star Eric Maxim Choupo Moting was yet to record a goal in a major competition finals.

Aged 33, the breakthrough finally came against Serbia in the biggest stage on Monday Nov. 28.

Choupo scored Cameroon’s equaliser at the 66th minute when he was played in by supper sub. Vincent Aboubakar and Choupo simply tapped into the net of Vanja Milinković-Savić for his 21st goal in national colors after 72 games played.

Choupo Moting thus carries his superb scoring record to the World Cup as he has now totaled 2 totals in his last three appearances for Cameroon, adding up to 11 goals in his last 16 games for Bayern.

Cameroon will need Choupo to find his scoring touch yet again against Brazil on December 2, as the Indomitable Lions need a victory against the 5-time World champions for any glimmer of hope, to qualify for the next round.
