Qatar 2022: Füllkrug’s Late Strike Gives Germany Dire Point Against Spain
Spain faced Germany in Group E on Sunday Nov. 27 at the 2022 World Cup. The two teams separated with a one-all draw on Sunday, November 27.
According to bookies, the Spain-Germany match was the biggest game so far and it lived up to billing.
On the first game day, La Roja crushed Costa Rica (7-0) while the Mannschaft was beaten by Japan (2-1).
During the first half of the encounter, the Spanish team bossed possession and largely dominated with great technical accuracy.
However, Spain couldn’t score a goal. The best opportunity for the Spanish side came after a perfect action of over 35 passes in the 7th and Dani Olmo’s shot was matched by Neuer.
For the Germans, Rüdiger scored in the 40th minute, but the goal was disallowed for offside. The score remained 0-0 at the end of the first period.
Germany kicked off the second half and tried to impose itself against Spanish bullying in the middle of the park.
However, La Roja opened the scoring in the 62nd minute. On a cross from Alba, Morata arrived from Süle’s hindsight before beating Neuer with a flick with the outside of the right foot.
Asensio could have made it 2-0 a few minutes later, but his shot from the left went wide.
Despite the dominance by the 2010 champions, the Mannschaft continued to attack. Sané found Musiala who passed the ball to Füllkrug. The latter struck hard and scored the equalizing goal for 1-1 at the 83rd minute.
With 4 points, La Roja leads the group ahead of Japan and Costa Rica with 3 points. Germany are last with one point, but a win against Costa Rica will put them in contention for the round of 16 if Spain defeats Japan.
