Qatar 2022: Jerome Ngom Repays Song’s Faith With An Assist Against Brazil

Wideman Jerome Ngom Mbeleki was in action for just 6 minutes and he pulled off a ‘rabit out of the hat’ assist to Vincent Aboubakar, who scored the lone goal in Cameroon’s historic win against Brazil.

The story of Jerome Ngom, a graduate of Ecole de Foot based in Cameroon is just stunning.

Aged 24, Ngom would not have dreamt of making the 2022 World Cup, talk less of assisting a goal against Brazil some weeks ago.

The latter started the season in fine fertile and he, alongside 26 local players were called to camp in early November, in view of the FIFA World Cup, which he impressed.

Immediately after the send off game against Jamaica in Yaounde, coach Rigobert Song listed Jerome Ngom with Souaibou Marou as the two locals to accompany 24 foreign based players to Qatar.

The youngster had to wait for his moment patiently, as he wasn’t used in the first two games against Switzerland and Serbia.

With things heating up against Brazil, Song sent in Ngom to replace Moumi Ngamaleu at the 86th minute.

With just his third touch of the ball in borrowed time (90+2), Ngom placed the ball perfectly on the head of his skipper Vincent Aboubakar, who nodded into Ederson’s net for the winner.

Ngom who has had spells in the US and Czech republic is no new comer to assists. He dished out 3 assists in the MTN Elite One with Colombe this season, before he left for the World Cup.

He registered 14 assists last season for Colombe, on the back of a scintillating 2020/2021 campaign that saw him win an Award as VAR player of the month in one occasion at Apejes of Mfou.
