Qatar 2022: Roger Milla, Eto’o To Open Fresh Talks With Matip On Lions’ Return

In view of the 2022 World Cup, Cameroon is looking to roll the red carpet to its best possible players.

The 5-time African champions are still trying to bring back Joel Matip who has been retired from international duty since 2014.

On several occasions, Matip, the Liverpool sweeper, has denied to return from retirement to defend Cameroon.

Be it at the AFCON or the play-offs for the 2022 World Cup, the latter seemingly looks uninterested.

But for – Cameroonian legend, Roger Milla, it is still possible to convince the defender and that is what he wants push for.

“I’m going to talk to the president of FECAFOOT, we’re going to see Joel Matip so that he comes for the World Cup”, aired Roger Milla on Vision 4.

Joel Matip is having the season of his life at title-chasing Liverpool. Testament to his fine season is the EPL, is his February Player of the month award.

Matip has played 34 games in all competitions this campaign, scoring once and assisting twice in the premier league.

The 31-year-old will be quite a reinforcement in Cameroon’s backline if the green light eventually comes. Matip played two world cups for Cameroon in 2010 and 2014.

The latter scored Cameroon’s lone goal in the 2014 FIFA World Cup against Brazil.

Cameroon are drawn in group G alongside: Brazil, Switzerland and Serbia.
