Qatar 2022: Three Lions Crush Neighbors Wales For R16 Slot

In the last day of Group B at the 2022 World Cup on Tuesday November 29, England won against Wales (3-0) thanks to a double from Marcus Rashford and a goal from Phil Foden.

Jordan Henderson and his teammates validated their ticket to the knockout stages of the World Cup. They finished first in Group B ahead of the United States – winners at the same time against Iran (1-0) – and will challenge Senegal for a place in the quarterfinals.

The Three Lions can thank an inspirational Marcus Rashford. From the start of the match, the Manchester United striker stood out from the start when he faced Welsh goalkeeper Danny Ward at the 9th minute though he missed.

He finally found the target after returning from the locker room. With a magnificent free kick full skylight, Marcus Rashford scored the opener at the 50th minute before completing his double, 8 minutes after the hour mark.

Meanwhile, Phil Foden had doubled the money a few seconds after Rashford’s opener from a Harry Kane cross at the 51st minute.

The case then seemed to be settled, especially since the Welsh ran out of ideas, as in their first two games which ended in a draw against the United States (1-1) and a defeat against Iran. (2-0).

Symbol of their slump was star Gareth Bale who got substituted at halftime. His stat sheet sumed up his performance in the first half: seven balls touched for five lost, one tackle (lost) and one successful pass out of four.

With an ‘on fire’ Rashford – currently top scorer in the World Cup with three goals like Gakpo, Mbappé and Valencia – the English confirmed their return to the round of 16.

Semi-finalists of the 2018 World Cup then finalists of Euro 2021, the men of Gareth Southgate will play another knockout stage at a major competition. They will try to continue their good series against Senegal on Sunday December 4 (8 p.m.).
The classification of group B reads: 1. England: 7 points, 2. United States: 5 points, 3. Iran: 3 points, 4. Wales: 1 point.
