Qatar 2022: Tite Quits After Brazil’s Painful Exit

Tite is no longer the coach of Brazil. In office for six years, the Seleçao technician communicated his departure to journalists, in the wake of the elimination against Croatia in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup.

Tagged favorites to bag a sixth World Cup trophy in history in Qatar, Brazil are shockingly out in the quarter-finals and will not continue with Tite.

At a press conference, following the surprise elimination of the Seleçao against Croatia in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup (1-1, 2-4 on penalties), coach Auriverde announced that he will not continue with the the South Americans . His contract runs until the end of December with the Brazilian Football Federation.

“It’s a painful loss, but I’m at peace with myself. It’s the end of a cycle.” This departure is not surprising after the rout suffered by the Brazilians against the finalist of the last edition, despite Neymar’s opener in extra time, before the Croatia leveled through Bruno Petkovic to push for the 5-aside penalty shootouts. Rodrygo and Marquinhos both missed their attempts.

Appointed coach in June 2016, replacing Dunga, the 61-year-old technician led for 81 matches in all competitions, for 61 wins, 13 draws and 7 losses. Brazil won the Copa America in 2019 under his reign, before a final two years later – lost against Argentina. However, Tite could not lead his players to the world title.

At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the five-time winners of the competition were already eliminated in the quarter-finals, that time by Belgium (1-2). First in group G during the group stage, the Brazilians easily took out South Korea in the round of 16 (4-1), before leaving Qatar through the back door after an incredible scenario against Zlatko Dalic’s men .
