Qatar 2022: Vincent Aboubakar’s Goal Of The Tournament Contender Wins Him A MOTM Award
A solid second half performance graced by a goal and an assist, saw Vincent Aboubakar crowned Man of the match in Cameroon’s three-all tie against Serbia on Monday. Aboubakar follows the likes of: Ziyech, Boulaye Dia and Aïssa Aidouni, as he becomes the fourth African player to win a Man Of the Match Award in this finals.
Football pundits world wide have acclaimed the genius of Aboubakar who had the calmness and presence of mind to fake the shot, check inside and just delightfully chip goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, caught in no man’s land. The goal is right up there with Richarlison’s bicycle kick – still against Serbia.
Vincent Aboubakar became the first African player (since 1966) to both score and assist as a substitute in a World Cup game.
However, the man at his prime started on the bench at the start of this Cameroon – Serbia encounter, and made his way on only at the 55th minute when the indomitable Lions trailed 3-1.
In the space of ten minutes, the Cameroonian striker went from forgotten skipper to hero for his country. He scored at the 63rd minute then offered Choupo-Moting a nicely weighted pass for his first goal in the World Cup 65th minute as the game drew three-all.
With 38 goals to his name with the national team, the Garoua native and AL Nasr player in Saudi Arabia, who already overtook legend Roger Milla, is the third top scorer in Cameroon’s history behind Samuel Eto’o (56) and François Omam-Biyik (45).
