Régis Mughe Tears-Up After Net-Burster Against Annecy

Before giving in to penalties against Annecy, in the quarter-final of the French cup on Wednesday, Olympique Marseille snatched an equaliser thanks to 18-year-old Cameroonian striker, François-Régis Mughe.

The youngster acquired in the summer was thrown into the fray with only a few seconds left to play in the Vélodrome when OM was led 2-1 against Annecy, currently 10th in Ligue 2.

In the fifth of the six minutes of additional time given by the referee, OM drew level. Nuno Tavares was found on the left side and the Portuguese played in Vitinha.

The ball landed on the feet of Mughe (number 33) who instinctively controlled, and fired pass the goalie on the turn.

François-Régis Mughe teared up after he had just scored his first professional goal minutes after replacing Jordan Veretout.

Annecy was able to recover from the shock to win 7-6 on post match penalties, after a miss from Leonardo Balerdi, but the evening was historic for the young François-Régis Mughe.

The latter was earlier called up earlier this season by Igor Tudor, but he wasn’t given a chance in the first team.

This Cameroonian striker, trained at the Ecole de Football Brasseries, arrived in the summer of 2022 to strengthen the reserves.

At the time of his signing, OM presented him in their press release “as one of the country’s great hopes”, a “right-footer who can play on both sides”, but also “a fast and technical player who already stands out by his ease in the one-on-one”.

This season, he appeared nine times with the Marseille reserve in N3 (two goals) and four times in the Youth League. It was Marseille’s scout Omar Sciolla who spotted him.
