Road To Paris 2024: Indomitable lionesses overturn Uganda’s 2-goal buffer

The indomitable lionesses have obtained a ticket for the 3rd preliminary round of the qualifying tournament for the 2024 Olympic Games, thanks to a thumping victory over Uganda.

There was no margin for error. In front of an overzealous Douala audience, Jean Baptiste Bisseck’s team put on a show from the onset.

From the start, Aboudi Onguene and her teammates attacked the Ugandan camp and came close to opening the score, but Mbele narrowly missed the target.

Mbele basically had the best chances in the first 20 minutes but failed to open the scoring three times, as the Lionesses pushed a resistant Uganda.

Cameroon took the lead in the 27th minute. On a cross from Aboudi Onguene, Nchout Njoya Ajara sent the ball into the back of the net with a magnificent volley.

The Crested Cranes created two chances before the break, but Cathy Biya kept the nets ever so clean.

Returning from the locker room, Cameroon had the same desire and from the first minutes, the Lionesses attacked again.

In the 48th minute, Colette Ndzana whipped in a free kick on the head of Monique Ngock who beat the Ugandan goalkeeper and brought the score to 2-0.

The intensity faded a little and regular play time ended with a 2-0 score.

Beaten in the first leg by 2 goals to 0, the lionesses won in extra time.

The third came in the second period of extra time through the right boot of Fallone Meffometou as it ended 3-0, the final score, and 3-2 on aggregate. Cameroon therefore advances to the third preliminary round, where they will face Nigeria. The Super Falcons easily dispatched Ethiopia on Wednesday afternoon with a 4-0 score after a draw in the first leg (1-1).
