Road To Qatar: Panama – Cameroon Scheduled For UAE

The Senior Men’s National Team of Cameroon will play a friendly match against Panama, on Friday, November 18 at the Mohammed Bin Zsyed Stadium, located in the United Arab Emirates, in the city of Abu Dhabi.

9 days after the bye game in Yaounde, the indomitable Lions tutored by head coach Rigobert Song, head to UAE to face Panama.

It will be the fourth time in history that Panama will be meeting a team from the African continent.

The first time was in 2005, when Panama, led at the time by coach José Cheche Hernández, drew 1-1 against South Africa in the quarterfinals of that year’s Gold Cup, thanks to a goal from Jorge Dely Valdes. Later, the Panamanian team qualified for the semifinals after beating South African 5-3 in a penalty shootout.

The third time that Panama played against an African team was 4 years ago. Panama faced Tunisia on June 28, 2018, in a match for the third day of the 2018 Russia World Cup group stage. The final result was 2-1 with a victory in favor of Tunisia. Panama’s goal came thanks to an own goal from the rival team.

According to the latest FIFA ranking, Cameroon is classed 43rd team in the world. The indomitable Lions look to fine-tune tactics in the country’s last friendly before they head the way of Qatar. Cameroon are placed in group G of the tournament along with Brazil, Serbia and Switzerland.
