Samuel Eto’o Re-elected as FECAFOOT president

Samuel Eto’o was officially  re-elected on Saturday to head the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) during the Elective General Assembly held at the CAF Centre of Excellence in Mbankomo. As the sole candidate for his succession, the outgoing president secured a landslide vote of confidence: a staggering 85 out of 87 votes, with only two ballots declared void.

This re-election, while anticipated, is highly symbolic and serves as a powerful testament to the majority of delegates’ deep desire and shared vision to continue the vibrant momentum and positive transformation initiated during his previous term. Samuel Eto’o now embarks on a fresh four-year mandate, tasked with the noble mission of reinforcing unity within the great Cameroonian football family and tackling key challenges to elevate the beautiful game to new heights.

Earlier in the morning, outside the CAF Centre of Excellence, some passionate voices were heard. Local football stakeholders, notably leaders from Jeunesse Stars, voiced their frustrations regarding their structure’s exclusion from youth competitions and difficulties faced by certain sectors of the national game.

However, despite these external expressions of concern, the General Assembly proceeded smoothly and harmoniously, overseen by representatives from FIFA, CAF, and local administrative authorities.

With this renewed mandate, Samuel Eto’o embraces the crucial responsibility of bringing all football stakeholders together in a spirit of reconciliation and shared purpose, significantly bolstering struggling sectors, ensuring greater transparency, and breathing new life into national competitions—especially those dedicated to nurturing young, future stars.

The presidential election was just the glorious first step of the day! Delegates are now continuing their important work with the vote to appoint the Executive Committee members who will form the dream team accompanying the re-elected president for the next four years.

A brilliant new chapter thus opens for FECAFOOT, filled with the eager hope of seeing Cameroonian football achieve greater stability, soaring ambition, and renewed excellence on the continental and global stage.
