Samuel Oum, the Man For the ‘Big Occasion’

Rigobert Song might have to rely on Samuel Oum Gouet for a proper job when Cameroon log horns against Algeria in under 5 days.

Samuel Oum, one of the few players who carries the Cameroonian winning mentality and spirit – having played through all the youth categories, will be of utmost importance in any plan Rigobert Song has, against Algeria.

Fresh from being decorated bronze medalist at the AFCON 2021 that was held in Cameroon, the youngster turned out to be a gem, and rare silver lining in Cameroon’s midfeild.

The erstwhile Apejes skipper has had the confidence of coach Rigobert Song before, at the U23 category, when he skippered the team to the 2019 – U23 AFCON in Egypt.

Despite the team’s ousting at the early stages, Oum showed a lot of character and leadership qualities.

The midfeild metronome has shown on several occasions that he can play under any tempo or atmosphere. In fact, Oum received huge ratings when Cameroon played Cote D’Ivoire in group D of the World Cup qualifiers in Douala, Cameroon.

The KV mechelen man formed a formidable partnership alongside Anguissa and Hongla, which helped Cameroon to win 1-0 via an Ekambi strike.

The native from Ayos, Cameroon, played five games in the AFCON, accumulating 392 minutes, including a sensational match against Egypt in the semis, despite the Lions’ defeat on post match penalties.

Back at Mechelen, Oum isn’t doing bad as well in his debut season. He has played 25 games and dished out an assist in the Jupiter Pro. League.

Oum and co will open camp on Monday March 21, prior to the crucial encounter to be played on March 25.
