Sudan’s AL Hilal stun YANGA on the road in CAF Champions League opener
Sudan’s Al Hilal began their 2024/25 TotalEnergies Caf Champions League with a stunning 2-0 win over Young Africans at the Benjamin Mkapa stadium, Dar es Salaam.
Malien Adam Coulibaly and Sudan international Mozamir Yasir scored in the second half to silence the capacity home crowd.
The hosts, under the stewardship of new tactician Sead Ramovic were dominant in terms of possession but were kept at bay with the visitors, managed by experienced Congolese tactician Florent Ibenge finishing off swift counterattacking moves in the 63rd and 90th minutes.
Young Africans who missed injured Uganda Cranes captain Khalid Aucho have now lost three in succession in all competitions and find themselves at the bottom of Group A.
Elsewhere, MC Alger held their own in Kinsasha as they held five-time African champions TP Mazembe to a goalless draw.
In this group, TP Mazembe will visit Al Hilal in their next match while last season’s quarter finalists Young Africans take on MC Alger in Algeria in a must win clash.
