Sundowns in Seventh Heaven: 3-0 Rout Puts One Foot in CAF Semis
Mamelodi Sundowns took a significant step toward the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League after securing a convincing 3–0 victory over Stade Malien in the first leg of their quarterfinal clash.
The South African champions produced a clinical display at home, breaking the deadlock in the 34th minute through defender Khuliso Mudau, whose strike gave the hosts a deserved lead before halftime.
After the break, Sundowns continued to dominate proceedings. Colombian forward Brayan León doubled the advantage in the 54th minute, capitalizing on sustained pressure from the Pretoria side.
The result was put beyond doubt in the 74th minute when striker Iqraam Rayners found the net to seal a commanding three-goal cushion for the hosts.
The emphatic win leaves Sundowns in a strong position heading into the return leg in Bamako on March 22, where Stade Malien will need a remarkable turnaround to keep their continental hopes alive.
