Sundowns veteran goalie,
Mweene retires
Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that one of their veterans has decided to retire from professional football.
Zambian goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene has hung up gloves and take on a new role in his career.
Mweene’s last appearance for the Brazilians came in the 2021/2022 season, but he fell further down the pecking order when Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams joined the club.
“Masandawana, Zambia and Mamelodi Sundowns icon ???? Kennedy Mweene is hanging up his gloves to pursue the next step in his illustrious football career!,” the club tweeted.
“A Continental Champion for Club and Country, and one of the most decorated players in South African football history!”
Mweene has enjoyed an illustrious career for both club and country, having won eight league titles in South Africa, the CAF Champions League while he also won the Africa Cup of Nations with Zambia in 2012.
