Toko Ekambi Kicks-Out After Coming Off Against Strasbourg

Unhappy to leave before the hour mark during OL’s match against Strasbourg on Saturday, Karl Toko Ekambi went directly to the locker room, making his anger visible. Lyon went on to lose 2-1 at home against Strasbourg.

Karl Toko Ekambi is far from having the best career moments. Having arrived at OL in the summer of 2019, the former Villarreal player never managed to convince against Strasbourg and was quickly taken aback by Lyon supporters.

The latter left the patch angrily when Lyon received Strasbourg on match day 19th of the Ligue 1 on Saturday. In fact, a message was directly sent to the Cameroonian, with a banner telling him to leave the club.

At a jam-packed Groupama Stadium,
Toko Ekambi was replaced by Bradley Barcola at the 58th minute.

With a Dark look, the 30-year-old striker was copiously whistled by the public. Furious, he went directly to the locker room, letting all his rage explode.

In the corridors of the locker room, Ekambi took off his jersey, before hitting a trash can.

Since the start of the season, Toko Ekambi has been far from meeting expectations. The striker with 53 caps has scored just four goals in 18 league games. The statistics do not reflect the player he is in training according to Laurent Blanc.

“It’s not at all the same thing between his level of the week and his level during the matches. He’s a complete player, who goes fast, who dribbles. But his productions are not up to par”, recalled his coach at a press conference this week.

” What he provides in training, he can’t give in matches. It’s a shame because we need it. There must be a problem, we have to find confidence individually. The state of mind depends on each player. I see players performing well during the week but at the weekend you have to get the best out of it and some players are not quite there yet.”
