Top Cameroonian photographers at AFCON 2023
Photography in football has gone a step ahead from what obtained in the yesteryears, and photographers are now as important as every media personnel.
The just ended AFCON 2023 in Cote D’Ivoire saw dozens of photographers from Cameroon mark the competition, with some top shots that made world tours.
The ‘new generation’ Cameroonian photographers rivaled the best on the continent and in the world, with artistry and shots that told stories.
Here are the top cameroonian photographers at the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations;
8Diane Domkam

Women have gotten more into sports photography and Cameroon’s Diane Donkam is one of those women changing the narrative.
In a highly competitive space that has top talents, Diane has managed to poke her nose and be ranked amongst one of the best.
The 2023 TotalEnergies AFCON was Diane’s second major competition in the men’s category. Diane Domkam mostly puts her photos up in platforms in France.
7Kadji Gilles

Well known for his work around the littoral region of Cameroon, Kadji Gilles had a special story this 2023 TotalEnergies AFCON.
The young photographer was amongst Journalists involved in a bus crash in the media shuttle that was leaving Yamoussoukro for Abidjan, but he stayed on to finish the competition.
Kadji Gilles is noted for his special fan pictures in the stands.
6Nick Leonel

It is difficult to find someone more passionate than Nick, a yaounde-based photographer.
Nick covered his second TotalEnergies AFCON on Cote D’Ivoire after the last edition in Cameroon.
Nick Leonel is highly solicited back home, and works as contracted photographer for the Guinness Super league.
Passion runs in Nick’s family, such that his 9-year-old daughter, Fleur Randa, has joined the world of sports photography in Cameroon.
5Steve Jordan

Of all the ‘new generation’ photographers, Steve Jordan is the youngest, aged 25.
Steve puts his photos on notable platforms, including IMAGO images.
Currently based in yaounde, Steve has differentiated himself from the rest of the pack with his unique editing skills in the background of his photos.
Steve Jordan is a reference in youth football, covering youth football juggernauts, Ecole de Football Brasseries.
The AFCON 2023 was Steve’s second in the men’s edition, but he was present in last year’s WAFCON. Steve started his sports photography career in 2020.
4Stephane Nounamo

Stephane Nounamo is a top professional who has invested in photo equipments to great effect.
Nounamo is well known in the center region of Cameroon and across the continent after covering major events.
The latter was in Qatar for the FIFA world cup after covering the TotalEnergies AFCON in Cameroon. He had an untrodden output in Cote D’Ivoire, with his descriptive pictures.
3Daniel Beloumou
Being an introvert, Daniel Beloumou let’s his job do the talking.
Beloumou is a trained photographer from France, and has a queue of international competitions in his resume.
At the 2023 TotalEnergies AFCON, Beloumou worked for state media house, Cameroon Tribune.
He has worked for dozens of international media organs and has been covering international competitions for more than 6 years.
2Didier Lefa

Based in the Littoral region of Cameroon, Didier traveled for his umpteenth competition in Cote D’Ivoire.
Didier has football photography as his speciality, but his peculiarity is the ability to adapt and shot other sports events.
Didier has seen his photos used by major football federations and personnels like the Cameroon Football Federation, and its president, Samuel Eto’o.
Didier equally puts his photos on the IMAGO platform. He covered the 2023 Qatar world cup, 2021 and 2023 AFCONs. He has ranked 4th in the AIPS for two years consecutively.
Didier is set to cover the 2024 Paris Olympique games later this year.
1 Achilles Tsanga

Achilles Tsanga, popularly show-named Lenoir records is unarguably the best sports photographer in Cameroon in recent times.
“Lenoir” covered the AFCON 2023 in Cote D’Ivoire upon invitation as a CAF photographer.
Based in Douala, Cameroon, Achilles’ photos are frequently used by the world Football Governing Body (FIFA), and president, Gianni Infantino.
Achilles Tsanga has covered 2 AFCONs, the Qatar 2022 World Cup, the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2022), amongst others.
Achilles is very liked amongst local and international footballers due to his professionalism and humility.
