Troost Ekong wins 2023 AFCON MVP

Nigeria finish the tournament as second best after losing 2-1 to host country Côte D’Ivoire in what was The Super Eagles eight AFCON final but, had a some take home positive through man of the tournament, William Troost Ekong.

The emblematic captain field-in an incredible 490 minutes of football time in Côte D’Ivoire added to his three goals earned most valuable player.

Ekong formed an impenetrable Nigerian backline alongside Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey and Ola Aina conceding just four goals from open play.

The 30-year-old scored twice against Côte D’Ivoire group stage winner from a penalty and headed his country ahead in the final plus another spotkick against South Africa in the Semi Final.

Important goals accompanied by skilful defending as well as great leadership skills revealed throughout the tournament contributed to him being named MVP.
