U17 Women’s World Cup: Nigeria Stun USA To Make Semis

Nigeria will contest the semi-final of the U17 Women’s World Cup for the first time in their history after beating the United States 4-3 on penalties as the quarter-final ended 1-1 in regulation time .

The kick-off of the match was delayed by more than an hour due to a thunderstorm in India. The United States dominated the game, but it was Omamuso Edafe who put Nigeria ahead with a penalty scored in the 26th minute after consultation from VAR.

The United States equalized in the 40th minute through Amalia Villarreal. The Americans created the best chances but couldn’t convert. They managed 24 shots on target against seven for Nigeria.

The score remained intact until the end of the game as the teams were separated after the lottery of penalties won by the Nigerian (4-3).

The Flamengos will meet the winner of the Colombia-Tanzania match in the semi-finals.
