U20 WWC Qualifiers: Cameroon Dumped Out Of The Race To Costa Rica
The junior Lionesses have been ousted from the 2022 Costa Rica U20 Women’s World Cup race after a dismal reverse fixture that saw the Falconets hammer them 3-0 in Nigeria.
Two goals from Esther Onyenezide and one more from Precious Vincent meant qualification to the next and final round, for the Falconets and coach Christopher Danjuma.
A zero – all tie in the game was going to be absolute parity as Nigeria needed a victory to sail through to the next round, after a stalemate in Cameroon.
Constant pressure by Nigeria was rewarded when Onyenezide converted from close range at the 20th minute for the game’s curtain raiser.
Seven minutes after the half hour mark, Vincent joined the party with a truely symptoms goal whilst Cameroon searched for an illusive equaliser.
Onyenezide completed her brace at the 72nd minute, which acted as the ‘coup de grace’ landed on coach Ndoumou and her Lionesses squad.
Nigeria will pit either Morocco or Senegal in the last round of the qualifiers, to determine if they are one of the two teams that represent the continent in Costa Rica later this year.
