U23 AFCON: Gabon Ousted, Cameroon Enters Through The Back Door
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has with immediate effect qualified Cameroon for the U23 AFCON, and disqualified Gabon following a fraud complaint on the age of Gabonese player Floris DJAVE.
Cameroon had written a qualification protest on the latter after the double confrontation of the 3rd and final qualifying round of the U23 AFCON qualifiers won by Gabon on penalties in Yaounde.
Djave, who already appeared with an identity of more than 23 years in his previous competitions, was targeted and the Disciplinary commission led by South African national Raymond HACK decided to sanction Gabon for fraud and therefore, it is Cameroon that will participate in the next TotalEnergies U23 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for Morocco.
According to the elements in sportglitz’ possession, the CAF Disciplinary Jury have decided to;
Eliminate the Gabonese team from the current edition of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations.
To suspend the Gabonese Football Federation (FEGAFOOT) from participating in the next edition of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations.
To submit the case to the AFCON U23 Organizing Committee to replace
the Gabonese U23 national team in the competition, in accordance with AFCON U23 regulations.
Cameroon will thus have the opportunity to go to the CAN U23. But above all to aim for a qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Cameroon automatically replaces Gabon in group B of the draw done a week ago. The group includes: Egypt, Mali and Niger. As a reminder, the AFCON U23 is scheduled from June 24 to July 8 in Morocco. This competition is a qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympics Games
