U23 AFCON Qualifiers: DR Congo Disqualified

The DR Congo have been disqualified from the third and final round of the U23 AFCON qualifiers.

There is another set-back in Congolese football. Having qualified to the third and final round after defeating Algeria, the U23 Leopards will no longer play for a slot in the road to the AFCON U23 build for Morocco.

“Due to the decision of the CAF Disciplinary Jury of April 24, 2019, FECOFA has been suspended from participating in the next U23 AFCON after being found guilty of violating the CAF Disciplinary score”, notified CAF in a statement.

The Disciplinary Jury of CAF decided that “FECOFA had violated the provisions of the disciplinary code and the statutes of CAF, and as such decided that FECOFA be immediately eliminated from the current edition of AFCON U23”, continued the Confederation of African Football.

In addition, the Congolese football Federation has been ordered to pay a fine of 50,000 US dollars.

It is a Sad outcome for the team that sweated to get through to this stage. It isn’t however the first time that FECOFA is being linked with a negative statement this year. In the U17 UNIFFAC tournament staged in Cameroon, Congo pulled out of the tournament. Congo was getting set to play against Ghana between March 19-27.
