Uncertainty, Tension Reigns – As AFCON’s Fate Will Be Decided In Few Hours

The fate of TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2021 will be decided in the upcoming hours, in Yaounde, Cameroon.

Motsepe will look to meet the country’s president – Paul Biya, and Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, for further discussions on whether or not, the Jamboree goes on.

European clubs and FIFA president Gianni Infantino are reportedly putting pressure to postpone the competition, the president of the African Football Confederation (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, arrived the host country – Cameroon on Monday.

He arrived alongside Samuel Eto’o, the newly elected president of the Cameroonian Football Federation. The South African business tycoon spoke to reporters on arrival, stating “Cameroon is our house, it is the home for Africa. We’ll talk today and get back to you. We are very clear in terms of the commitment to make AFCON to be a success in Cameroon “, assured the CAF boss. “We will give you more details tomorrow when we have discussed, but I am very confident. We are working together with Cameroon, that is a proud nation of football. We have made Cameroon and Africa proud and I am confident that in our meetings today and tomorrow we will be able to come to you and give Africa and the world the confidence we have, through the commitment to our people, in Cameroon, and the commitment to the development of football in Africa. ”

The words are anything but reassuring, and not all that sufficient for thousands.

In all these, a letter dated Saturday, addressed to Eto’o to announce the visit of Motsepe, the secretary general of CAF, Véron Mosengo-Omba, is in any case very explicit and reiterates the motivation of the body to “work together to achieve, despite the doubts of some, the most beautiful AFCON organized to date ”.

According to further reports, Motsepe will look to meet the country’s president – Paul Biya, and Ferdinand Ngo Ngo.
