UNIFFAC U20: Djawal On Target But Congo Snatch A Point Away From Cameroon

U20 UNIFFAC cup holders Cameroon played a one-all draw against host country Congo, at the Massamba Debat stadium in Brazzaville this afternoon.

Starting their title defense, coach Yvan Kenmoe and his boys got on a good footing.

Aged 19, Kaiba Djawal stepped up to take responsibility and score from the spot at the 26th minute – which opened the scores. The goal means Kaiba has scored for the senior men’s national team, the U23’s, the CHAN selection and now, the Junior Lions (U20).

The Cotonsport mid continues on a fine fertile. However, Congo rallied and equalized from one goal down.

12 minutes after Djawal’s converted penalty, Congo got back to level terms. Jacques Ndecket was credited with the goal at the 38th minute after a fine passing sequence that beat Hecube Ntone in Cameroon’s goal to get parity in the contest.

The game went on to finish one-all as both sides keep their chances of qualification to the U20 AFCON with two games left.

Up next for the Junior Lions is a brawl against the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday Dec. 11.

After which, the 2021 U20 AFCON quarter-finalists will conclude their campaign against the Central African Republic on December 14.

The group winners and runners-up will qualify for the U20 AFCON scheduled for February next year in Egypt.
