Vanessa Mballa Crash Out Of Tokyo Olympics

Vanessa Mballa crashed out of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after falling to Kayra Sayit 1-0s1 in the early hours of Friday July 30.

Down went the hopes of a whole nation for an Olympic medal at this years event when Hortence Vanessa Mballa Atangana, was beaten for skill, in the +78 Judo category, round of 32.

Of all athletes made up of six disciplines ferried to Tokyo, Japan, there is unlikely to be a medal of any sort to return to the country.

The latter told CRTV’s Njie Enow Ebai that her preparations pre tournament weren’t the best: ‘ I was abandoned by the coach despite being injured,’ she added ‘the frosty ties with the National Judo Fédération hampered my preparations.’ Cameroon’s Judo coach Dona has however dismissed the accusations.

There was a glimmer when boxer Wilfred Seyi made it through to the round of 32 in the men’s boxing category, but he ungracefully fell in his next bout against Congo’s Tshama Mwenekabwe, as the judges’ scorecards read 3-2.

Last on Cameroon’s boxing queue was Maxime Yegnong, but he couldn’t withstand the sheer Ivan Veriasov, on July 29.

This is a carbon copy of the Rio 2016 Olympics when the Cameroon Olympic Sports Committee sent a total of 24 athletes, 5 men and 19 women, to the Games, competing in six different sports, and they came back without any medal.
